Vera Baboun is the former mayor of Bethlehem.  She was mayor between 2012 and 2017, the first woman elected for mayor in Bethlehem, and throughout her adult life has been a peace advocate. 

In this episode, she describes the atmosphere in Bethlehem on the eve of Christmas 2021, and wishes us all a happy holiday.

Karnit Mandel, a documentarian who specializes in archival work, talks about her new film, “Shalal: A Reel War,” which was recently aired on aired on Israel’s Hot 8 cable TV channel which co-produced it with Israel's New Fund for Cinema and Television.

Mandel’s documentary examines the audiovisual material that was part of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s archive in Beirut and was confiscated by the Israeli military during the 1982 Lebanon War.

The recording of a December 9th 2021 webinar with Sari Bashi, an Israeli human rights lawyer and the co-founder of Gisha. Bashi recently published a Hebrew-language book, “Maqluba: Upside-Down Love,” about her relationship with her partner, a Palestinian professor from Gaza. 

Bashi, who writes the popular Umm Forat blog, has won critical acclaim for her book and is working on an English translation.

Maya Rosen is a Jerusalem-based activist with All That’s Left, an anti-Occupation collective.
